Reading 2023,  Reading Goal

Reading What I Own: A Goal for 2023

We are almost a month into the new year and some people have set intentions, while others are changing habits and making resolutions. But if you’re anything like me you might have also gotten a head start on spring cleaning. A few times a year I will go through my belonging to see if I’m holding on to items I no longer use. I did this with my books and like most lovers, I realized I have way more unread books than I thought. One of my goals this year is to make my way through this backlog of unread books.

Last year, I tried to track my reading on both GoodReads and StoryGraph, but this year I’m making the switch and will only be using StoryGraph. Via Storygraph I’ve joined a few challenges and I’m hoping some of these books will count toward a number of the prompts. Like most users of StoryGraph, I’ve set a yearly goal of 50 books (I set the same goal every year). Last year, I made it just past the halfway mark with 27 books read for the year. The three challenges I’ve joined this year are 19 Nonfiction 2023 by BookItQueen and 20 Books By Black Folx 2023 and 20 Books by Black Women by MelanatedReader.

Most of these books I’ve received/collected over the past few years, but some of them I received recently (as gifts or from publishers). I know better than to try and make a rigid order to read these in. As a mood reader, I tend to put up and put down books too haphazardly to be able to commit to a list. I’m currently reading Sadeqa Johnson’s “The House of Eve” and I’m really liking it. I read The Yellow Wife by her last year and it was outstanding! I started The Third Rail last year and while I know what the book is about, I think I’ll have to start from the beginning again. I’ll post an update quarterly on my progress (hopefully this will help to keep me on track).

Are there any books here you recognize that you read and loved (or didn’t)? Let me know which are your favourites and why.
